Conveying Your Legacy

β€œWhat is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.”
— Lin-Manuel Miranda | HAMILton

Many people who have grown up in the presence of wealth have little direct connection with the work ethic, perseverance, and values that were necessary to create wealth. For family wealth to last, it’s important for succeeding generations to understand from where the wealth came and the intent of the grantor in bequeathing the gift to his/her heirs.

In a program called Conveying Your Legacy I interview trust grantor(s) to help articulate the historical context, values, and THEIR intentions in offering the gift to their heirs. I also facilitate family discussions in which the heirs learn about the context and intention behind the loving gift they are receiving. A sometimes unexpected side effect can be an immediate improvement in family communication and mutual respect.
